We beleive that about 99.5% of our customers deserve to treated with respect, kindness and friendly personal service. The .5 % that are abusive, threatening, and harrassing will receive the above minus the friendly personal service.
Philosophy:
Above all else, great fabric is critical. Without the right fabric content, weave & weight, it doesn't matter how nice the pattern, trim or buttons are. You must start with the right fabric. Second, you must use quality construction techniques. After that, yes the trim and buttons are also very important.
Distressing:
This is an important subject to all pirates. Silhouettes Clothing Co. hopes to offer a free online guide to the different distressing tecniques soon. Here is a brief introduction:
A rough overall approach will not achieve the results you wnat. Many customers ask about a cement mixer. That might work on sashes, but please don't do that to our coats and vests! It's simply an urban legend. For example, Penny Rose, the talented Costumer who created the clothing used in POTC, employed a distressing specialist. Why would she do that if she could just throw the stuff in a cement mixer? In order to properly distress a garment you must start by thinking about how the garment would be used. Where would it get stains? Where would it get torn? Where would it get faded? Special treatments must be used for each. If you use a rough overall approach like running over with a car or the classic "mixer" scenario, all you will get is cheesy ragged costume, and possibly a few tire tracks. Using a thoughtful approach (tip: say to yourself "think & test" before you do anything) some rusty nails, Rit dye, sprayed on bleach or lemon juice, sun bleaching, sandpaper, brillo type drill bits, line drying and pavement pounding, you can achieve beautiful results.
Prices:
New potential customers often comment on the prices of certain items. The reason prices are higher is due to the higher costs to make these products. A side by side comparison will reveal significant dxifferences in construction quality, design and materials.
This is not your typical “eye patch, red stripe socks, plastic sword” site!
The clothing for sale here is based on a strong understanding of museum quality historical costuming. Made with only the finest materials and the highest caliber of construction techniques. Many, many hours have been spent studying, drafting and perfecting the patterns and finding the best possible, highest quality fabrics, buttons and trims. The result is the most realistic pirate clothing available!
